LONDON, 5 February 2020 – CKH Innovations Opportunities Development (CKH IOD) has launched a dedicated Centre of Excellence for Private Networks, to provide bespoke, super-fast connectivity for large private enterprises.
Private networks, also known as private LTE, provide more resilience, speed and control in an enterprise network than Wi-Fi. They allow organisations to capitalise fully on 5G capability the moment it becomes available and provide an important stepping stone for companies looking to leverage innovations like advanced automation, VR and robotics.
To create private LTE, cellular networks are deployed on-site at an enterprise's premises, to support its mission-critical applications and services and they are typically separate from the mobile operator's own cellular infrastructure.
Especially pertinent for large-campus environments, private networks are increasingly becoming the choice of enterprises in sectors including transport and manufacturing.
Based in CKH IOD's London headquarters, the Centre draws together the experts who designed and deployed some of the world's most mission-critical private networks, including those at the Port of Felixstowe and Heathrow Airport. This allows companies to connect with the industry's most experienced radio engineers and solution designers.
The Centre also includes a CKH IOD Network Operations Centre (NOC) exclusively focussed on monitoring and providing Level 1 support for customers' private networks from qualified engineers.
"Large, campus environments, such as transport hubs, logistics operations, wind farms and refineries, are incredibly reliant on guaranteed and secure connectivity to operate their businesses,” said Sean Doherty, Head of Enterprise for CKH IOD. “We've successfully deployed a number of these mission-critical private LTE networks and understand first-hand how important the solutions are to enterprise customers.
“Our Centre of Excellence has the people and technologies to help large businesses leverage reliable, high-speed private networks to ensure the smooth and efficient running of critical operations. The Centre includes project managers, solution designers and some of the industry's most experienced engineers who will not only design the radio plan, but who also have a deep understanding of the devices and applications that will rely on this connectivity."
Mr Doherty added that, while many large organisations are struggling with digital transformation initiatives — just 16 percent of organisations surveyed by McKinsey said their digital transformations have successfully improved performance — the evidence shows that a highly enabled enterprise network can be a key factor in delivering on transformation goals.
"Our enterprise customers who have transitioned to private LTE have found that these private networks become an engine for change, giving better visibility across highly complex campus environments and supporting them as they adopt transformative technologies like increased automation, robotics and autonomous vehicles," he said. "The increased speeds and zero latency of 5G will be a further, strong enabler of innovation and transformation. Adopting private networks now lets enterprises get ready for that future."
